Tutor for Sociology
Full Time. 12 months Fixed Term. To commence 20th August 2025.
At Oldham Sixth Form College, we're looking for a passionate Sociology educator to join our dynamic team teaching our most popular - and growing - subject with over 500 students each year. Our vision at OSFC is to transform the lives of young people through academic excellence and outstanding support, something which our Sociology teachers excel at and you can be part of.
You will teach engaging AS and A Level Sociology courses following the AQA specification as part of our collaborative, supportive Humanities team known for excellence. Your role involves designing and delivering student-centered lessons while providing meaningful, timely feedback that challenges and supports students to achieve the best outcomes. You'll also help shape an evolving curriculum that prepares students for success in higher education and beyond. We want to appoint a Sociology teacher with a passion for the subject equal to their academic understanding that can develop both of these in our students.
Sociology at OSFC enjoys unparalleled popularity as the most chosen subject at the college with exceptional student retention and continued growth. We offer a comprehensive curriculum covering Education, Families & Households, Research Methods, Beliefs in Society, Crime & Deviance, and Theory & Methods. Students benefit from enrichment opportunities including but not limited to guest speakers, like Dr Katy Snell on corporate crime, and trips, like this year’s trip to the UCL Institute of Education A Level Sociology Conference.
You'll find clear pathways for professional development at OSFC. We value teachers’ expertise and centre collaboration between teachers, guidance from outstanding ASTs and evidence based research in our bespoke CPD programme. This will feed into your work in Sociology, creating a clear link between your individual development and the curriculum. Whether you’re an ECT or an experienced teacher you will be both supported and challenged to develop your craft.
We seek candidates with proven success teaching Sociology at secondary/post-secondary level, strong subject knowledge, and genuine passion for the discipline. Experience with AQA specifications is preferred. Additional ability to teach WJEC Criminology or GCSE Sociology would be advantageous but is not required for exceptional candidates.
This position is perfect for experienced Sociology teachers seeking a vibrant department or Early Career Teachers looking for exceptional mentorship and growth opportunities.
