Cook in Charge
St George's CofE Primary School is seeking a dedicated, organised and enthusiastic Cook in Charge to lead our school kitchen and play a key role in ensuring our pupils enjoy high-quality, nutritious meals in a welcoming environment.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about food, enjoys working with children and has the confidence to lead a small catering team while maintaining the highest standards of food safety, hygiene and customer service.
Hours: 30 hours per week
Salary: Support Scale 2 (SCP 3-4)
Location: St George's CofE Primary School, Kidderminster
About the Role
As our Cook in Charge, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the school kitchen, including menu preparation, food production, stock management, compliance and team supervision.
You will:
- Plan, prepare and cook healthy, nutritious meals for pupils.
- Ensure all food hygiene, allergen and health and safety requirements are met.
- Order, receive and manage stock efficiently, minimising waste and controlling costs.
- Maintain accurate HACCP and compliance records.
- Lead and support the catering team, setting high standards of professionalism and customer care.
- Organise catering for school trips, events and special occasions.
- Build positive relationships with pupils, staff, parents and visitors.
- Create a pleasant and enjoyable dining experience for all children.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Has a sound understanding of food preparation and kitchen management.
- Has excellent knowledge of food allergens and food safety requirements.
- Can remain calm and organised in a busy environment.
- Has experience supervising staff and managing workloads.
- Has strong organisational, communication and record-keeping skills.
- Is confident using IT systems and online ordering platforms.
- Enjoys working in a school environment and engaging positively with children.
- Is reliable, professional, flexible and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Food Hygiene Level 2 qualification.
- First Aid training.
- Experience working within a school or educational setting.
- Experience of menu planning, food cost control and food hygiene inspections.
