Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant or HLTA — or someone keen to learn and develop in a school environment — who’s passionate about supporting children to achieve their very best?

Whether you’re experienced in education, returning to the workforce or looking to take your first steps into a rewarding school-based role, we’d love to hear from you.

About the Role

We’re looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our team and make a meaningful difference every day.  As a TA at Bligh Primary School, you’ll support teaching and learning across the curriculum, working closely with class teachers and other key staff to help pupils thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

This role has a strong focus on working with pupils in small groups, delivering 1:1 style interventions, and supporting larger groups during lunchtime sessions — helping children build confidence, develop independence and engage positively with school life.

Whether you’re supporting a small group, assisting with whole-class activities, or helping a child who needs a little extra encouragement, your role will be varied, rewarding and vital to our school community.

In this role, you will:

  • Support learning activities under the guidance of the class teacher

  • Provide targeted support to individuals and small groups

  • Support lunchtime groups and activities where needed

  • Help pupils develop confidence, independence and a love of learning

  • Foster a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to enrich the classroom experience

Who you Are

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Passionate about helping children learn and grow

  • Flexible, proactive and eager to learn

  • Skilled in communication and a team player

  • Calm, kind and encouraging, even under pressure

  • Committed to promoting a positive school culture

Ideally, you will:

  • Hold an NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in a relevant subject

  • Have experience working with primary-aged children ideally

  • Have strong literacy and numeracy skills (GCSE A–C or equivalent)

What We Offer

Support staff are integral to the success of Bligh Primary School. We value every team member and ensure there are clear opportunities for development, collaboration, and work-life support.

Here’s what we offer:

  • 1:1 pupil devices, helping you support learning in a digital-forward environment

  • Free EV charging, supporting environmentally conscious commuting

  • An honest and open workplace culture, where every role is respected and heard

  • Ongoing CPD and upskilling, with access to Maritime Trust training platforms

  • Local Government Pension scheme & National terms & conditions

  • Comprehensive Employee Assistance Programme
