About this Role
The Headteacher and governing body of Great Sankey Primary School are looking for a reliable, competent and enthusiastic person to fulfil the role of Maintenance Officer across our school site. The successful candidate will be practical and skilled in carrying out a range of maintenance and repair tasks, ensuring the school site remains safe, secure and well maintained. The Maintenance Officer will be supported by the school’s Headteacher, Business Support Officer and by a wider Estates Team at our trust, The Challenge Academy Trust (TCAT).
Typical working hours: (although some degree of flexibility in working hours may be required at times)
Monday – 7.15am – 10.45am then 2.30pm – 6.00pm
Tuesday – 7.30am – 2.30 pm (30 minutes unpaid lunch)
Wednesday – 7.30am – 2.30 pm (30 minutes unpaid lunch)
Thursday – 7.30am – 2.30 pm (30 minutes unpaid lunch)
Friday – 7.30am – 10.30am then 3.00pm – 6.00pm
Great Sankey Primary is a state-of-the-art building built in October 2012. It is
set on one site and is well-maintained and cared for. It has an excellent reputation within
the local and wider community.
Applicants must be able to work as part of a vibrant, committed team, communicate
effectively and professionally with children, staff, governors, parents and contractors and
display adherence to established safety policies and procedures.
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Experience of maintaining a school, public building or similar premises.
- Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and safe working practices.
- Good IT skills, including email and digital maintenance systems.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage workloads effectively.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with staff, contractors and external agencies.
- A proactive and flexible approach to work.

During School holidays, hours are more flexible and can be arranged in discussion with the
Headteacher. The Annual Leave entitlement is 26 days per year (rising to 31 days after 5
years) between 1st September – 31st August. All holidays are to be taken during school
closure periods.
