About the Role

Priestley College is seeking a dedicated and proactive Site Maintenance/Estates Operative to join our team. This vital role ensures our college campus remains a safe, secure, and well-maintained environment for students, staff, and visitors. Reporting to the Estates Manager, you will play a key part in maintaining the college’s facilities and supporting its day-to-day operations.

This is a full-time position (37 hours per week) with a shift pattern of 6:00 AM–2:00 PM or 12:00 PM–8:00 PM. Part-time hours may also be considered, and applicants are encouraged to state their preference in their application.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain the college’s structure, fabric, and fittings to ensure a high-quality working and learning environment.
  • Act as a registered key holder, responsible for opening and securing the campus.
  • Monitor campus security and student conduct, taking appropriate action when necessary.
  • Manage vehicle movement and parking on campus.
  • Perform reactive and planned maintenance tasks, including basic plumbing, painting, and lock changes.
  • Conduct health and safety checks and monitor heating, cooling, ventilation, and water services.
  • Assist with snow and ice clearance during inclement weather.
  • Set up furniture for classrooms and exams.
  • Accompany visitors, contractors, and others on campus as required.
  • Support emergency evacuation and lockdown procedures.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Experience in general building maintenance or a DIY/handyman role.
  • Good standard of education, including GCSE Maths and English (minimum Grade 4/C or equivalent).
  • Ability to perform reactive repairs and communicate effectively with students, staff, and contractors.
  • Knowledge of basic health and safety regulations, including risk assessment and fire safety.
  • Self-motivated, punctual, and trustworthy.
  • Ability to undertake porterage duties and move furniture.

Desirable:

  • Experience working in a secure environment or as a key holder.
  • Previous experience in an educational establishment or with 16–19-year-olds.
  • Qualification or training in a trade or related area.
  • Willingness to train as a First Aider.
