About the Role

Priestley College is seeking a dedicated and reliable Cleaner to join our team as soon as possible. This part-time, permanent role offers flexible shifts, including mornings (6:30am–8:30am), daytime (11:00am–2:00pm), and afternoons (4:00pm–6:00pm). You will play a key role in maintaining a clean, hygienic, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cleaning Operations: Clean designated areas such as classrooms, science labs, computer suites, kitchen and dining areas, staff offices, toilets, and communal spaces to a high standard.
  • Surface Care: Dust, polish, and disinfect surfaces, desks, tables, and chairs.
  • Floor Maintenance: Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors, with occasional use of floor buffing or carpet cleaning machinery.
  • Waste Management: Empty bins and ensure waste is disposed of correctly.
  • Sanitisation: Deep clean toilets, showers, and changing rooms, replenishing soap, toilet rolls, and hand towels.
  • Scheduled Deep Cleaning: Undertake deep cleaning tasks during College holiday periods, including scrubbing and buffing floors, high-level cleaning, furniture sanitisation, and detailed cleaning of specialist areas.
  • Health & Safety: Use and store cleaning chemicals in accordance with COSHH regulations and follow accident prevention practices.
  • Security: Ensure windows are closed and doors are locked after cleaning.
  • Reporting: Notify the Estates Manager of any maintenance issues or hazards.
  • Training: Participate in ongoing training programmes to maintain high standards and legal compliance.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in a cleaning role (commercial or domestic).
  • Knowledge of basic health and safety practices and COSHH regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and follow a checklist-driven cleaning programme.
  • Physical ability to carry out tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing.
  • High standards of cleanliness and attention to detail.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including during College events and holidays.
  • Willingness to engage in mandatory training and apply for an Enhanced DBS check.
