About this Role

DEPUTY HEAD TEACHER

Salary:              Point 7

Working hours: Full time

Start Date:        September 2026

Harlowbury Primary Academy is seeking to appoint an inspiring and motivated Deputy Headteacher to join our Senior Leadership Team on a permanent basis.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the school at a significant point in its development, as Harlowbury expands from a one-form entry school to a two-form entry school from next academic year, alongside a move into a brand-new building on the Gilden Park Estate in Harlow.

The role is intended to be non-class based; however, there may be some teaching responsibilities in the first year to support the school as it grows. This is a unique opportunity for an ambitious leader to help shape the future of a growing school and contribute to its next stage of development.

Applicants must have a proven track record of raising standards, an excellent understanding and knowledge of improving outcomes for children, and leadership experience.

The postholder will lead by example, motivate others and develop strong professional relationships with all stakeholders to drive the school forward.

You will:

  • be an outstanding classroom practitioner
  • be an effective, organised, inspirational role model with excellent people management and interpersonal skills
  • have a proven track record of leadership experience and raising standards

The school is looking for a leader with energy and enthusiasm who is ready to go the extra mile for our amazing children.

Are you dedicated and motivated professionally?

Do you have the passion and commitment to ensure our pupils are the best they can be?

We are looking for an inspirational and visible leader to join our Senior Leadership Team as Deputy Headteacher in September 2026. Your prominent role in the school will mean you will work closely with the Headteacher to support colleagues across the school in developing outstanding teaching practice, harnessing the skills and enthusiasm of all staff and pupils and working in partnership with the Headteacher to drive the school forwards on its journey.

You will have the determination, enthusiasm, and ability to lead, nurture, and inspire the development of high-quality teaching and learning and the ability to motivate pupils and staff and be able to develop strong partnerships working with the school’s community.

Developed skills in strategic thinking, leading to effective planning and progress towards a clear, shared cross-phase vision is essential, as is the need to be creative and show imagination, and often good humour, in response to changing circumstances and new ideas.

Additional benefits working at Harlowbury Primary Academy:

  • Two week October half term
  • Competitive salary
  • IT equipment relevant to the post
  • A childcare nursery facility on site (under 3 years)
  • A supportive team of leaders and staff
  • Opportunities for growth and development
  • A collaborative environment to work with colleagues across the trust
  • Extensive CPD opportunities, with external courses for career development
  • Working with a pastoral team, including a family liaison officer
  • Membership of a generous pension scheme (Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) or Teacher Pension Scheme (TPS)
  • National pay rates
  • Flexible working opportunities
  • Supportive special leave requests

Harlowbury Primary Academy offer a unique chance to be part of a friendly and supportive team. Being part of a primary cluster of nine schools, staff work in teams to share the responsibility for planning, with support from Trust subject leads and the Curriculum Director.  High quality CPD is offered across the Trust.

The school has a dedicated team that works hard to reach high standards in everything they do and this is further embedded through our successful relationships with parents, the local community and the other local schools within NET. At Harlowbury we believe in the future development of our teachers to enable them to develop and progress their career.

Potential applicants are both welcome and encouraged to visit the school. Please contact the school office by telephone on 01279 421567
