About this Role

Lead with care. Shape behaviour through understanding. Change lives early.

Some roles manage behaviour.
Others shape futures from the very start.

At Rowan School, we are looking for an Assistant Principal for Behaviour & Welfare who understands that for our youngest learners, behaviour is often their first language and that the right support at the right time can change everything.

This is a key leadership role at the heart of a nurturing, specialist primary setting.

About Us

Rowan School is a primary SEND setting supporting learners with a range of needs including SEMH, ADHD, communication needs, SpLD and associated profiles.

Our approach is simple but powerful:
Safety, consistency and relationships come first.

We know that when children feel safe, understood and regulated, they are able to engage, learn and begin to thrive.

You will find:

  • Warm, nurturing classrooms built around individual needs
  • A strong focus on early intervention and regulation
  • A curriculum that adapts to the child, not the other way around
  • Staff who are patient, skilled and deeply committed

This is a school where foundations are built carefully and where every small step matters.

The Role

As Assistant Principal for Behaviour & Welfare, you will:

  • Lead and develop a whole-school approach to behaviour, wellbeing and regulation
  • Embed consistent, relational and trauma-informed practice across the school
  • Support staff in understanding and responding to behaviour in a developmentally appropriate way
  • Oversee behaviour systems, recording and analysis to ensure strong practice and compliance
  • Lead on safeguarding culture, ensuring high standards in care, vigilance and recording
  • Monitor attendance, engagement and emotional wellbeing of learners
  • Work closely with families and external professionals to provide joined-up support
  • Be a visible, calm and reassuring presence throughout the school day

This role is about creating the conditions where children feel safe enough to learn.

Who We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience in SEND, particularly within primary or early years contexts
  • Understands child development, regulation and communication needs
  • Can lead with warmth, patience and consistency
  • Is skilled in supporting and developing staff practice
  • Has strong knowledge of behaviour, safeguarding and welfare systems
  • Is highly organised, with strong attention to detail in recording and compliance
  • Believes in early intervention and getting it right from the start

You will be someone who sees the child first.

Why Join Us?

This is an opportunity to:

  • Shape behaviour and wellbeing at a crucial early stage of a child’s journey
  • Be part of a nurturing, values-led school community
  • Work within a wider group with strong central support and expertise
  • Develop your leadership with clear progression opportunities

We offer:

  • A supportive leadership network across our schools
  • Ongoing professional development and career progression
  • A strong focus on staff wellbeing and sustainable working
  • Westfield Health package
  • A wide range of wellbeing initiatives to support you in your role
  • A culture where your work is valued and your voice is heard

Interested?

If you are ready to lead behaviour and welfare with care, clarity and compassion and help shape the foundations of a child’s future, we would love to hear from you.

We reserve the right to close this vacancy early.

Safeguarding Statement

Rowan School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

All appointments will be subject to a safer recruitment process, including an enhanced DBS check, reference checks (to be obtained prior to interview where possible), and online searches in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education.

We are committed to creating a culture of vigilance and expect all staff to uphold the highest standards of safeguarding practice.
