About this Role

We are looking for an exceptional SEN teacher who can help our children achieve their potential and thrive in adult life. Experience in special education is not required, and teachers from mainstream schools are encouraged to apply. Early Career Teachers (ECTs) are also welcome, with the school offering strong support and a positive working environment.

Our primary children typically work 3-4 years below age-related expectations and all have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) covering a range of complex learning difficulties, including speech and language difficulties, autism, and medical needs. You will be part of a team, working with small mixed-age groups of 10-12 children. All teachers coordinate a subject as part of a collaborative team, and we are currently considering both KS1 and KS2 opportunities.

Who We’re Looking For:

  • Passionate, dedicated, and innovative primary SEN teachers.
  • Experience in special education is not required—we welcome and support teachers from mainstream settings looking to transition.
  • Early Career Teachers (ECTs) are encouraged to apply.
  • A flexible, confident, and adaptable team player who embraces change and is eager to contribute to a "can-do" school culture.

Why Join West Hill School?

  • Keen, eager children who are excited to learn and develop.
  • Friendly and supportive staff, parents, and governors.
  • Varied curriculum with opportunities for professional development.
  • A positive, thriving environment where children and staff flourish.
  • A strong focus on wellbeing for all staff and students.

At West Hill, we are a forward-thinking school that values innovation, enthusiasm, and teamwork. We encourage teachers to grow and thrive in their roles and offer development opportunities that will help you become a key part of our school's ongoing growth.

In line with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) guidance, we may also conduct an online search about any shortlisted candidates as part of our due diligence to identify any matters that might relate directly to our legal duty to meet safeguarding duties, in accordance with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE).

SAFEGUARDING AND FURTHER INFORMATION

Due to the nature of this role, it will be necessary for the appropriate level of criminal record disclosure to be undertaken. In making your application, it is essential you disclose whether you have any pending charges, convictions, bind-overs or cautions and, if so, for which offences. This post will be exempt from the provisions of Section 4 (2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Therefore, applicants are not entitled to withhold information about convictions which for other purposes are ‘spent’ under the provision of the Act, and, in the event of the employment being taken up; any failure to disclose such convictions will result in dismissal or disciplinary action. The fact that a pending charge, conviction, bind-over or caution has been recorded against you will not necessarily debar you from consideration for this appointment.
