About this Role

As part of The Wensum Trust, we believe that our shared duty is to help every child to develop into high achieving, confident, healthy, caring and resilient members of their family and community. We want our schools to be healthy environments where both children and staff can develop and where strong, positive relationships are key. Our school, therefore, practices a relational approach with children, our families and our communities. We are particularly interested in working with people who share Our Qualities; who will work effectively and flexibly as part of a team.

If you are an experienced Early Years / Key Stage 1 / Key Stage 2 teacher, looking to further develop and share your skills in Early Reading, then we would like to hear from you!

Our Wensum English Hub, based at Heather Avenue Infant School in Norwich is one of thirty four English Hubs across the country funded by the Department for Education (DfE) to improve outcomes for children in early reading. This network of hubs contains some of the best performing primary schools in the country to support schools who face challenges with phonics and early reading.

Literacy Specialists support the English Hub’s strategic plan for sharing best practice across a network of local schools through three key areas:

• Developing language and closing the word gap
• Developing early reading through systematic synthetic phonics
• Promoting a love of reading

Training for this role will be provided via DfE accredited training in partnership with the English Hub. Literacy Specialists will be assigned schools to support with a visit to during every half term to coach staff and support senior leaders on their journey to improve outcomes for their pupils in reading. Contact via email will be needed between visits. You will be supported by the Hub Lead who will meet regularly with you (face to face and virtually) to discuss the progress of your schools and support you as required on your school visits.

Applicants must have Qualified Teacher Status and have experience of regularly teaching phonics to the same group of children with consistently good outcomes. They must have a strong subject knowledge around the teaching of phonics as well as understanding the need to teach phonics with fidelity alongside matching decodable reading books.

Through partnership to excellence, The Wensum Trust is committed to offering excellent professional opportunities and learning opportunities for its staff.

The Wensum Trust is committed to the protection and safety of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  All staff appointments are subject to satisfactory references and an appropriate Enhanced DBS check.

The Wensum Trust warmly welcomes applications from all sections of the community.

Being a part of The Wensum Trust’s family of schools offers employees unique experiences to work alongside our strategic partners and to collaborate with a wider network of staff. We believe in investing in employees as individuals, by providing training opportunities that help to develop both existing and new skill sets, to encourage career progression at all levels.

We care about bringing together the most able people, to help us achieve our vision of providing a rounded education for children, quality support for their families and opportunities to enrich our communities.
