Paid Summer Internship – Secondary Teaching (June–July 2026)

Subjects: Mathematics / Chemistry / Physics / MFL (French/German/Spanish) / Computing / Design Technology / Catholic Religious Education

About the Internship

St Mary’s College is offering paid summer internships for undergraduates and Masters students interested in becoming secondary school teachers in key shortage subjects. This programme provides hands-on classroom experience, mentoring, and training to help you decide whether teaching is the right career for you. What You’ll Do

  • Support teachers in lessons, registration and enrichment activities.
  • Offer additional subject support to pupils who need it most
  • Observe, plan and teach parts of lessons with training and mentoring.
  • Develop your understanding of teaching pedagogy and pastoral care.
  • Work closely with experienced staff and build professional relationships.
  • Keep a reflective learning journal and attend training sessions.
  • Uphold high standards of professionalism and safeguarding.

Who We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • Undergraduate (2nd, 3rd, final year) or Masters student in a relevant subject.
  • Strong knowledge and qualifications in Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Modern Foreign Languages, Computing, Design Technology,  Religious Education or similar.
  • Strong  communication skills and a genuine demonstrable interest in teaching in UK secondary schools.
  • Not previously completed a teaching internship programme.

Desirable:

  • Experience working with young people or in team settings.
