We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Engineering Technician to support the delivery of our engineering curriculum within a secondary school/college setting. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a practical environment and is passionate about supporting young people in developing essential technical skills, confidence, and independence.
Working closely with teaching staff, you will play a key role in ensuring that practical lessons run smoothly, safely, and effectively. You will help prepare materials and resources, maintain workshop spaces, and provide hands-on support to students during lessons.
This role is 37 hours per week, term time only plus 5 additional days.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare tools, materials, components, and equipment for practical engineering lessons.
- Support teachers during practical sessions to ensure activities are safe, engaging, and well-organised.
- Maintain workshop areas, ensuring equipment is in good working order and safely stored.
- Monitor and manage stock levels, including ordering materials in line with departmental budgets.
- Assist with routine maintenance of tools and machinery.
- Provide small group and one-to-one support to students, helping them develop practical skills and understanding.
- Promote and uphold high standards of health and safety at all times.
- Support students’ personal development by encouraging independence, confidence, and resilience.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Experience in an engineering, workshop, manufacturing, or technical environment.
- Strong practical skills and confidence using a range of tools and equipment.
- Good organisational skills with strong attention to detail.
- The ability to build positive working relationships with staff and students.
- A calm, patient, and supportive approach when working with young people.
- A sound understanding of health and safety in a practical learning environment.
- A willingness to contribute positively to the wider life and ethos of the school/college.
