About the Role

Wyvern Academy is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Librarian to join our team and support our journey towards becoming an outstanding school. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in developing and promoting our library resource centre, fostering a love of reading, and supporting students’ literacy development.

You will work closely with the SEND and literacy team to ensure the library is a vibrant, inclusive, and effective learning environment that supports both academic achievement and personal development.

Key Responsibilities

Library Management

  • Organise and manage the library to ensure effective use by students and staff
  • Catalogue, classify, and maintain library resources
  • Select, acquire, and promote resources to support teaching and learning
  • Maintain stock, including repairs and general upkeep
  • Create engaging displays and promote reading initiatives
  • Supervise student use of the library, including out-of-hours study
  • Recruit, train, and support student library assistants
  • Organise and oversee book fairs and reading events

Student Support

  • Deliver structured literacy and reading interventions
  • Support small group learning activities and programmes
  • Assist students in accessing ICT and learning resources
  • Provide exam support (e.g., scribing/reading where required)

General Duties

  • Support the wider ethos and aims of the school
  • Promote positive behaviour and student wellbeing
  • Ensure safeguarding, health and safety, and data protection policies are followed
  • Participate in meetings, training, and professional development

What We’re Looking For

Essential

  • GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths
  • Experience working with young people
  • Experience in a library or learning support environment
  • Strong IT and organisational skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team

Desirable

  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Teaching Assistance or similar
  • Knowledge of the national curriculum
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development
