About this Role

You will plan and deliver ambitious, knowledge-rich lessons that secure strong foundations in literacy and the wider curriculum. Calm under pressure and confident in communication, you will build positive relationships that encourage curiosity, independence and respect. Committed to inclusion and high expectations, you will contribute fully to school life and embody the Oak Trees MAT values of Collaboration, Expression, Citizenship and Inspiration.

About Egremont Primary School

  • Two-form entry academy with around 270 pupils on roll and three specialist SEMH bases.
  • We serve an urban community with high levels of deprivation and SEND need (FSM6 65%; SEN support 27%; EHC plans 12.8%).
  • Part of Oak Trees MAT. Our character-led curriculum and values underpin everything we do.
  • We are driven by a clear vision of equity of opportunity so every pupil can flourish intellectually, morally and civically.
  • We follow the 2025 OFSTED framework with a strong emphasis on safeguarding, inclusion, curriculum and teaching, achievement, behaviour and personal development.

About the role
As a class teacher  you will:

  1. Teach high-quality, well-sequenced lessons that raise attainment in literacy and secure foundational knowledge across the curriculum.
  2. Plan and deliver adaptive teaching and scaffolded tasks so all pupils—including disadvantaged pupils and those with SEND—make strong progress.
  3. Lead targeted small-group interventions to accelerate progress for disadvantaged pupils and those in our SEMH bases.
  4. Use assessment information to check learning, identify when pupils are ready to deepen knowledge, and adapt future teaching accordingly.
  5. Maintain high expectations for behaviour; implement school behaviour strategies and support pupils’ social, emotional and mental health needs sensitively.
  6. Work closely with colleagues, parents, multi-disciplinary teams and external agencies to support pupils’ progress and well‑being.
  7. Contribute to whole-school priorities: literacy improvement, curriculum depth, EYFS transition, character education and pupil leadership.
  8. Participate in staff development and Trust-wide professional networks to continually refine practice.

About you — the qualities we are seeking
You will be someone who:

  • Holds QTS (or equivalent) and has recent primary classroom teaching experience — or is working towards QTS (for example: trainee teacher, School Direct, SCITT, postgraduate trainee, or an ECT about to start their ECT year). We welcome applicants at different stages of qualification and will provide appropriate induction and support during the contract.
  • Has high expectations for all pupils and a strong commitment to equity and inclusion.
  • Is skilled at delivering high-quality early literacy teaching and building foundations across the primary curriculum.
  • Understands and can support pupils with SEMH and SEND with patience, resilience and effective behaviour strategies.
  • Can use assessment to adapt teaching so pupils embed and deepen their learning over time.
  • Thrives working collaboratively and contributes positively to school improvement priorities.
  • Is reflective, open to feedback and keen to develop professionally through targeted CPD and Trust networks.

We particularly welcome candidates who are motivated by social justice and who will bring diverse experiences to our staff team.

What we offer

  • A supportive, caring leadership team and a committed staff body working in partnership with families.
  • Clear induction, in‑post mentoring and line‑management support for candidates working towards QTS or entering the ECT year.
  • Access to Oak Trees MAT professional development, peer networks and coaching.
  • The chance to lead and contribute to meaningful school improvement priorities: literacy, curriculum depth, EYFS strengthening, and character education.
  • A genuinely inclusive environment with specialist SEMH provision and experienced staff supporting complex needs.
  • A warm, values-driven culture where staff wellbeing and pupil development are taken seriously.
