Key responsibilities
- Deputise for the Headteacher and make
strategic/operational decisions in their absence.
- Lead the implementation and coherence
of a knowledge‑rich, inclusive whole‑school curriculum that sequences
disciplinary knowledge and supports depth of learning.
- Oversee assessment systems so they are
valid, proportionate and used consistently by staff to identify pupils’
readiness to deepen learning and to close gaps.
- Lead quality assurance (lesson visits,
work scrutiny, pupil voice) to secure consistently high teaching standards
and measurable impact on outcomes.
- Develop and line‑manage middle
leaders; build capacity in subject leadership and professional networks
across the Trust.
- Drive inclusive practice for pupils
with SEND and SEMH needs, ensuring statutory duties are met, personalised
approaches are coherent and progress is monitored.
- Lead on staff development that is
classroom‑focussed, short‑cycle and linked to school improvement
priorities.
- Support attendance, behaviour and
wider pupil welfare strategies that sustain the school’s ‘ready, respectful,
safe’ culture.
- Contribute to governance reporting,
safeguarding, health & safety and other statutory duties.
Person specification —
essential
- Qualified teacher (QTS) with
substantial recent classroom practice.
- Proven leadership experience with a demonstrable
impact on pupil outcomes — particularly in literacy and for disadvantaged
pupils and pupils with SEND.
- Strong curriculum and assessment
knowledge: can translate intent into sequenced lessons and reliable
assessment that teachers use to deepen learning.
- Experience leading or line‑managing
teachers and middle leaders; skilled coach/mentor.
- Knowledge and practical experience of
inclusive provision and the graduated approach for pupils with SEND,
including liaison over EHC plans and SEMH provision.
- Excellent communicator with strong
organisational skills and the ability to build productive relationships
with pupils, staff, parents and external partners.
- Commitment to Oak Trees MAT values
(Collaboration, Expression, Citizenship, Inspiration) and to character
education that promotes human flourishing.
- Previous senior leadership experience
as an Assistant/Deputy Headteacher.
Desirable
- Experience of working in a MAT and of
system leadership across schools.
- NPQ or similar senior leadership
qualification.
