About this Role

Yorkshire Causeway Schools Trust is a family of both Church of England and community schools, serving communities across North Yorkshire. We are committed to nurturing every child’s potential, celebrating diversity, and ensuring excellence in education. Each school has a Local Governing Board (LGB) that play a vital role in supporting and challenging school leaders, whilst working within the Trust’s overall governance framework.

This is a unique opportunity to lead the Local Governing Board of a warm and flourishing school. As Chair, you will work closely with the newly appointed Headteacher and senior leaders to provide strategic oversight, ensure accountability and help shape the school’s vision and direction. You’ll guide the board in fulfilling its responsibilities, foster effective governance and ensure that decisions are made in the best interests of all our students.

You will have strong leadership skills and a passion for education. You’ll need to be confident in chairing meetings, building consensus and supporting a diverse team of governors. This is a rewarding role where your expertise and dedication will help drive excellence and opportunity for every child at Hampsthwaite CE Primary School.

If you’re ready to take this step in your governance journey and help lead a school that’s ambitious, inclusive and community-focused, we’d love to hear from you.

The Role

As Chair, you will:

Lead the Local Governing Board in fulfilling its responsibilities monitoring the effectiveness of the school’s performance, ethos, and community engagement.

Work closely with the Headteacher and senior leaders, offering support and constructive challenge.

Ensure the board operates effectively, with clear agendas, inclusive discussion, and sound decision-making.

Champion the Trust’s vision and values while representing the unique identity of the school.

Act as a key link between the Local Governing Board and the Trust Board, ensuring communication flows both ways.

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a tangible difference in the life of a school and its community.

What We’re Looking For

We welcome applications from individuals who:

Have experience of leadership, governance, or community service.

Possess strong communication and facilitation skills, able to build consensus and manage challenge.

Are committed to inclusivity, fairness, and the highest standards of integrity.

Can dedicate time to board meetings, preparation, and engagement with the school community.

Knowledge of education is helpful but not essential. Induction and ongoing training will be provided.

We also welcome applications from anyone who would be interested in being a Governor at our wonderful school, and if so, we would really like to hear from you as well.
