About this Role

About us:

Curnow School is an outstanding special school and a founding academy of The Special Partnership Trust, a multi-academy trust in the South West of England which is striving to provide a consistently high quality standard of special education across the region.

Curnow School caters for pupils aged 2 - 19 with severe or profound learning difficulties as well as a number of students with autism.  Our younger students attend Curnow Lower School - a purpose-built provision based on the same site as Illogan Primary School and offers our young learners an environment which is conducive to their needs and one which helps meet our aspirational target of inclusive learning.  Our older students attend Curnow Upper School in Redruth which is also a well-equipped provision, catering for students with a wide-range of needs.  We have also recently opened The Karder Hub in St Columb Major for a small number of Reception and Year 1 pupils.  We are currently recruiting for SEN Teaching Assistants for each of our 3 sites.

The Role:

We're looking to appoint some energetic and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistants to work as part of a wider team at Curnow School on a fixed term contract, initially until 31/08/2027.  Working hours for Teaching Assistants at Curnow School vary according to work base.  Curnow Lower School TAs work 9:00 am - 3:40 pm.  Curnow Upper School and Karder Hub TAs work 8:50 am - 3:30 pm.  Whilst we are advertising for TAs to work 5 days per week, applications will be accepted from candidates wishing to work less days - please state your preference for working days and location clearly on your application.

Experience of supporting pupils with challenging behaviours, severe physical and/or learning difficulties is essential for this position.  A warm and empathetic personality is vital, as is a desire to work professionally with others to ensure we provide the best possible support for our pupils.

Key Responsibilities:

As an SEN Teaching Assistant at Curnow School, you will work closely with teaching staff to support pupils academically, socially, physically and emotionally.  You will:

*    Build positive, supportive relationships that help pupils grow in confidence, independence and self-esteem

*   Assist with the delivery of an ambitious, specialist curriculum tailored to individual needs

*   Provide hands-on support for pupils with a wide range of learning, physical and behavioural needs.

The role of an SEN Teaching Assistant at Curnow School may change during the day dependent upon the support needs of each pupil.  The successful candidate will be required to work alongside class teachers and other support staff and to follow any recommendations/guidance from multi agency teams.

This is more than a supporting role - it's an opportunity to make a genuine difference.

Our Total Reward Offer:

The Special Partnership Trust recognises the importance of developing a properly implemented People Strategy to underpin the overall strategic aims of the Trust.

Our People Strategy is designed to help us attract prospective high calibre candidates, as well as drive engagement, productivity and retention of our high performing and high potential employees. It reflects our belief in putting our people first. This does not mean putting our learners second. It is based on the philosophy that if we create a positive and rewarding work environment, if our staff feel motivated, well managed and well supported, they in turn will provide the best possible outcome for our learners.

We recognise that our total reward offer, has got to consist of more than just money. We seek to provide our staff with a diverse range of benefits that support their day to day needs both at work and outside of work. These include generous leave entitlements and pension scheme as well as access to health/wellbeing tools, training & development, career pathways and opportunities to ensure they feel valued.
