About this Role

This role is ideal for a practitioner ready to take the next significant step in leadership — someone who believes that reading, writing and oracy transform life chances and who applies up-to-date cognitive science to secure lasting impact.

The Opportunity

You will lead English with clarity, ambition and precision, ensuring a coherent, well-sequenced curriculum from Year 3 to Year 6 that secures strong progress for every pupil.

You will:

  • Articulate and implement a compelling vision for English aligned with school and Trust priorities

  • Lead curriculum design, assessment and quality assurance with measurable impact

  • Apply principles from cognitive science to strengthen teaching, retention and pupil independence

  • Coach and develop colleagues through modelling, feedback and purposeful CPD

  • Use monitoring intelligently to drive improvement, not compliance

  • Strengthen inclusive practice through early identification, adaptive teaching and high-quality first teaching that secures ambitious  outcomes for pupils with additional needs

  • Contribute to Trust subject networks and wider school improvement work

You will remain a class teacher, modelling excellence and credibility every day.

The Leader We Are Seeking

You will:

  • Be an outstanding KS2 practitioner with proven impact on outcomes

  • Have expert knowledge of the English curriculum and effective pedagogy

  • Demonstrate a secure understanding of cognitive science and its practical application

  • Think strategically and act purposefully

  • Influence others through collaboration, clarity, integrity and professional trust

  • Show the ambition and capacity to progress into senior leadership

Previous subject leadership experience is welcome, but what matters most is drive, moral purpose and leadership potential.

We Offer

  • A culture of high expectations, professional trust and psychological safety

  • A genuinely supportive staff community where collaboration is the norm, not the exception

  • Senior leaders committed to coaching, mentoring and developing future aspirations

  • Access to Trust-wide networks, leadership development and subject communities

  • A clear commitment to staff wellbeing, including manageable workload expectations and time for leadership responsibilities

  • A leadership team that values balance, reflection and sustainable excellence

  • Pupils who are enthusiastic, respectful and ready to learn

If you are ready to lead English with ambition and take a significant step towards senior leadership, we would welcome your application.

Robin Hood Multi Academy Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
