Portway Primary School is seeking an exceptional, dedicated and passionate Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to lead our SEND provision and ensure that every child has the opportunity to thrive.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced teacher and emerging leader to play a pivotal role in shaping inclusive practice across our school. You will join a committed leadership team focused on high expectations, strong relationships, and outstanding outcomes for all pupils.

Report to: Headteacher/Deputy Headteacher.

Contract Type: Permanent.

Salary: Main pay Scale, TLR 2C and SEN Point.

Location: Portway Primary School, Stratford Road, Plaistow, London, Greater London, E13 0JW.

About the Role

As SENCO, you will take operational leadership of SEND across the school, ensuring high-quality provision, strong compliance with statutory requirements, and effective support for pupils with additional needs.

You will work closely with the Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher, teaching staff, support staff, parents, and external agencies to ensure that provision is well-coordinated, inclusive, and impactful.

This is a key leadership role at the heart of the school’s commitment to inclusion and pupil success.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is a qualified teacher with NPQ for SENCO.
  • Has proven experience in SEND leadership and provision.
  • Has a strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Can lead EHCP processes confidently and effectively.
  • Is an excellent communicator who builds strong relationships with staff, families, and agencies.
  • Has a clear commitment to inclusion and high expectations for all learners.
  • Is calm, organised, and resilient under pressure.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Leading and developing SEND provision across the school.
  • Overseeing EHCP applications and statutory documentation.
  • Supporting safeguarding for vulnerable pupils.
  • Coordinating medical and health-related support plans.
  • Coaching and developing staff to improve inclusive practice.
  • Working closely with external agencies and families.
  • Driving continuous improvement in SEND outcomes.
  • Lead on safeguarding for SEND pupils, ensuring statutory guidance is followed.
