About this Role

Teacher of PE (maternity cover)

South Site - Middleton

MPS/UPS + SEN Point (potential TLR for the right candidate)

Working within an SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) setting isn’t your average teaching job. Our students often arrive with complex histories and a fractured relationship with education. In this role, you aren’t just teaching physical literacy; you are building trust, developing emotional regulation, and providing a safe space for students to succeed.

What We’re Looking For

We need someone who is more than just "good at sports." We need a professional who understands that a game of football can be a lesson in conflict resolution, and a gym session can be a masterclass in self-discipline.

  • BTEC Experience: The ability to teach BTEC Sport is a distinct advantage, as we aim to provide our students with clear pathways to further education and employment.

  • Adaptability: You’ll need to be quick on your feet—literally and figuratively. No two days are the same here.

  • Empathy & Firm Boundaries: You understand the "why" behind challenging behavior and remain a calm, consistent presence for our young people.

  • Experience Level: We are highly flexible. We can offer a TLR (Teaching and Learning Responsibility) for an experienced practitioner ready to take on leadership tasks, but we are equally committed to supporting ECTs (Early Career Teachers) with a robust mentoring program.

Why Springwell Leeds South?

Springwell Leeds is a multi-site academy with a "nurture-first" philosophy. We believe in unconditional positive regard. If you join us, you’ll be part of a supportive, trauma-informed environment where staff wellbeing is a genuine priority.

Key Benefits:

  • A chance to make a profound impact on the lives of vulnerable young people.

  • Specialist SEN allowance.

  • Potential for leadership responsibilities (TLR).

  • A collaborative team that laughs together and supports one another through the challenges.
