Westgate Primary School are seeking to appoint an Assistant Headteacher for two days a week on a fixed term basis until 31st August 2026 to ensure Westgate ‘is the best it can be’. We are seeking to appoint a strong candidate who can deliver exceptional education and foster personal development across the different phases of our primary school.
Core Responsibilities
While specific duties may vary, the general responsibilities will include:
• Strategic Leadership: Collaborating with the Executive Head Teacher/ Head of School to develop and implement the school’s vision and strategic plans, ensuring alignment with the school’s values of: resilience, independence, collaboration, kindness, excellence, equality and respect.
• Curriculum and Teaching Oversight: Leading initiatives to enhance teaching quality and curriculum delivery across all areas of the curriculum, promoting reflective and personalised learning approaches that encourage student responsibility for their own achievement.
• Operational Management: Overseeing daily school operations, including setting high expectations for staff and students, ensuring compliance with safeguarding protocols, and monitoring student performance against set targets.
• Staff Development and Management: Providing coaching and mentoring to support professional growth and high performance among teaching and support staff.
• Community Engagement: Working with the Executive Director of Ambition to build strong relationships with parents, carers and the wider community to foster a supportive environment that enhances student learning and well-being.
Qualifications and Experience
Candidates for the Assistant Headteacher should meet the following criteria:
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
• Extensive teaching experience across different phases, with a proven record of delivering high-impact learning for all pupils
• Experience in coaching and mentoring both staff and students
• Broad curriculum knowledge and a proven ability to lead subject areas effectively
• Successful leadership experience in a range of educational settings
• Strong data analysis skills, with the ability to use insights to inform and drive whole-school improvement
• In-depth understanding of safeguarding practices and procedures
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills
• A clear commitment to fostering the well-being of both staff and students
• NPQSL (desirable but not essential)
