Pastoral Support Worker

St Thomas Primary School
Grade 4 | Term Time Only | 36.5 hours per week | Permanent

You will play a central role in our pastoral provision, working with children and families to remove barriers to learning and promote positive outcomes. Acting as the Designated Senior Person (DSP) for safeguarding and Looked After Children, you will lead on identifying need, putting effective support in place and working collaboratively with staff and external agencies.

This role suits someone who is calm under pressure, confident working with complex situations and deeply committed to child‑centred, values‑driven pastoral care.

You will be a calm, authoritative presence in school, able to handle sensitive situations with professionalism, warmth and integrity.

Key responsibilities

  • Support pupils’ emotional wellbeing, behaviour and engagement with learning
  • Lead on attendance monitoring and pastoral interventions
  • Act as first point of contact for parents on pastoral matters
  • Maintain accurate safeguarding, behaviour and incident records
  • Work closely with the SENCo, leadership team and external agencies
  • Uphold and model the school’s Christian values of compassion, trust, resilience, fellowship and respect

We are looking for someone who:

  • as experience in a pastoral, welfare or safeguarding role with children
  • Has strong knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures
  • Builds positive, trusting relationships with pupils and families
  • Works with professionalism, discretion and sound judgement
  • Shares and actively promotes our Christian ethos and inclusive values

DSL training (or willingness to undertake it) is essential for this role.
