Teaching Assistant (SEN Support and Achievement)
Hours: 8:00am – 3:00pm, Monday to Friday
Nonsuch Primary School is seeking a dedicated, caring and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our team. This is a rewarding role supporting some of our most vulnerable pupils and helping to ensure that every child achieves their full potential.
The successful candidate will begin each day by supporting our Breakfast Club from 8:00am, helping to provide a safe, nurturing and positive start to the school day.
Following Breakfast Club, the role will involve working closely with children who have a range of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), including pre-verbal pupils and children with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). The successful candidate will work across both our Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 specialist bases, supporting pupils to access learning, develop communication skills and make strong progress from their individual starting points.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the daily running of Breakfast Club from 8:00am.
- Work directly with pre-verbal children and pupils with a range of complex SEND needs.
- Deliver targeted interventions and learning activities tailored to individual pupil needs.
- Support Reception and Year 1 pupils with early reading and phonics activities.
- Provide classroom support alongside teachers across the school.
- Support pupils within our Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 SEND bases.
- Supervise and support pupils during lunchtime, promoting positive social interaction, communication and independence.
- Undertake lunchtime duties, ensuring children remain safe, engaged and well supported throughout the lunch period and during playtimes.
- Assist with personal care, including nappy changing, toileting and intimate care where required.
- Record observations and contribute to pupil progress reviews.
- Work under the direction of our specialist SEND teacher and wider inclusion team.
- Attend regular professional development and specialist SEND training.
- Support children to develop independence, communication, social interaction and learning behaviours.
- Adapt activities and learning opportunities to ensure pupils make strong progress against their individual targets and outcomes.
