About this Role

Join Our Team - Deputy Headteacher Opportunity

At Edwalton, we are dedicated to fostering a dynamic and supportive learning environment where both our pupils and staff can thrive. We are excited to be recruiting a Deputy Headteacher to join our close, dedicated and forward-thinking team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a strong, experienced leader who is ready to make a difference at a strategic level.

As a proud member of the Flying High Partnership, we believe in delivering an exceptional education that empowers children to reach their full potential. Our school is a unique, vibrant and supportive environment where our children and staff thrive, creativity is encouraged, and every child is at the heart of our decisions.

The Flying High Partnership is a thriving multi-academy trust of 38 primary schools across Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Nottingham City, and Nottinghamshire. We are driven by a shared vision to be unique, exceptional, and sustainable. Founded in 2012, we believe in the power of meaningful collaboration to help schools reach their full potential while supporting others along the way.

If you’re a current or aspiring school leader with a passion for raising standards, developing outstanding teaching and learning, and inspiring children through our curriculum, we’d love to hear from you.

About the Role

As our Deputy Headteacher, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of our school, with a particular focus on areas such as standards, assessment, curriculum leadership, Pupil Premium and exceptional teaching and learning. You’ll work in close partnership with the Headteacher, acting as a trusted ‘critical friend’ and supporting the wider leadership team to drive school improvement.

The role includes considerable leadership time as well as a teaching commitment, covering classes rather than having a class responsibility. The classes covered, as well as specific responsibilities, will be based on needs of the school as well as the candidates strengths and experience. The Deputy Head's timetable will be balanced to support our school's continuous improvement as well as your own development. This is a key role for someone with a relentless drive to improve outcomes, make and sustain positive change and lead across the school whilst contributing to its long-term vision.

We Can Offer You:

  • A welcoming, supportive and friendly team with high ambitions for our children and community.
  • A commitment to people across our partnership, underpinned by our people principles: adaptability, wellness, recognising achievement, employee voice and engagement, professional development and growth, inclusivity, and collaboration.
  • A clear leadership development pathway, including access to the full suite of National Professional Qualifications (NPQs), delivered through our very own Teaching School Hub.
  • Access to extensive, high-quality CPL at every stage of your career, including opportunities to grow as a leader and prepare you for future headship.
  • A leadership role with strategic responsibility, including Standards: Curriculum, Teaching and Learning, and Assessment.
  • The opportunity to progress across the partnership, realising your career ambitions.
  • A balance of class responsibility and leadership time, tailored to school needs.
  • Access to an Employee Assistance Programme, offering specialist support including counselling, financial support, and legal advice as well as a strong benefits package.
  • A fantastic workplace where magic happens every day for both children and staff.

We Are Looking For Someone Who:

  • Is a consistently strong classroom practitioner, with high expectations and a belief that all children can achieve.
  • Has experience in whole-school leadership and school improvement with demonstrable impact.
  • Has a strong understanding of whole school evaluation and can use it to inform strategy so that nothing is left to chance.
  • Delights in being with children and puts their well-being and success at the heart of everything, helping them to overcome barriers.
  • Embraces creativity, is a team player and has a positive outlook on life.
  • Is fascinated by the learning process and actively seeks new ideas and research.
  • Is willing to take risks and explore innovative opportunities to enable every child to thrive.
  • Is committed to continually developing as a facilitator of learning.
  • Loves supporting and inspiring fellow staff and children.
  • Has great ideas and is eager to share them!
  • Sincerely values every member of the school community.
  • Believes in each child and has high aspirations for their achievement.
  • Brings energy, enthusiasm, and a genuine passion for inclusive, values-led education.
  • Is prepared to go the extra mile to ensure every child gets an exceptional offer!
