About this Role

Whitehouse PRU is a primary Pupil Referral Unit in Hull that provides crucial support to pupils at risk of permanent exclusion from mainstream education. Specialising in supporting pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, we are dedicated to improving outcomes for vulnerable children and those facing challenges in regulating their behaviour.

The successful candidate will play a key role in modelling and communicating our vision and values across the school community. They will help foster a culture of both challenge and support, ensuring that all pupils and staff are empowered to have a voice and achieve success.

This role includes leadership of a core curriculum area, with responsibility for its development, implementation, and ongoing improvement to enhance outcomes for pupils with additional needs. Working closely with the senior leadership team, the Assistant Principal will contribute to driving whole-school improvement and maintaining high standards of teaching and learning at Whitehouse PRU.

We are looking for an individual who understands the contextual challenges within our setting and is deeply committed to improving outcomes for some of the most vulnerable children in the city. The successful candidate will demonstrate high expectations in learning, teaching, behaviour, and care, and will remain calm, resilient, and solution-focused in the face of challenge.

The role includes a teaching commitment, alongside dedicated leadership time out of the classroom. You will be supported by an experienced and passionate leadership team who are committed to your professional development.

We Offer:

  • A supportive and caring staff team and leadership who value work-life balance
  • Enthusiastic, well-behaved children who enjoy learning
  • A strong culture of collaboration and continuous improvement
  • Opportunities for professional growth and career development
  • A commitment to staff well-being including annual employee survey where we really listen to staff!
  • Employee benefits such as access to the Teachers Pension Scheme, free parking, free flu vaccinations, access to 24/7 GP service for you and your family as well as other EAP support.

Visits to the school are encouraged. Please contact admin@vennacademy.org to make arrangements.

Closing date: 14th May 2026 at 9am.
