Job Description: Casual Philosophy Tutor (KS5)

Location: Blessed William Howard Catholic High School
Contract Type: Casual
Reporting to: Head of Humanities / Curriculum Leader
Salary: Hourly rate in line with school pay scales
Start Date: As soon as possible


Purpose of the Role

To deliver high-quality Philosophy teaching to KS5 students, fostering critical thinking, ethical reasoning, and a deep appreciation of philosophical ideas, aligned with the school’s mission to develop a love of learning and a commitment to Catholic education.


Key Responsibilities

  1. Teaching and Learning
    • Deliver engaging and effective Philosophy lessons to KS5 students, ensuring lessons are well-planned, differentiated, and aligned with the curriculum.
    • Use a variety of teaching methods to develop students’ analytical, evaluative, and reflective skills.
    • Promote a positive learning environment that encourages student participation and intellectual curiosity.
    • Assess and provide constructive feedback on student work to support progress and attainment.
  2. Curriculum and Assessment
    • Support the implementation of the KS5 Philosophy curriculum, ensuring it meets examination board requirements and prepares students for A-level assessments.
    • Contribute to the development of resources and teaching materials as needed.
    • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and assessment outcomes.
  3. Student Support and Engagement
    • Foster positive relationships with students, supporting their academic and personal development in line with the school’s values.
    • Encourage students to engage with philosophical ideas in relation to ethical and moral questions, reflecting the school’s Catholic ethos.
  4. Professional Development and Collaboration
    • Participate in relevant training and professional development opportunities.
    • Work collaboratively with the Humanities department and wider school staff to share best practice and contribute to school improvement initiatives.
