About this Role

Become a School Governor

Could you help shape the future of our school?

We are looking for enthusiastic, committed people to join our Governing Board. You don't need to be an education expert – we welcome people from all walks of life who are willing to ask thoughtful questions, work as part of a team and make a positive difference.

Could this be you?

  • Would you like to help improve opportunities for children?
  • Do you enjoy working with others to solve problems and make good decisions?
  • Can you offer skills or experience from your career, volunteering or everyday life?
  • Are you willing to support, challenge and encourage school leaders?
  • Would you like to develop leadership, strategic thinking and governance skills?
  • Do you want to give something back to your local community?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, we'd love to hear from you.

What does a school governor do?

Governors work strategically alongside school leaders to ensure every child receives the very best education. They help shape the school's long-term direction, oversee finances, monitor educational standards, ensure statutory responsibilities are met and hold school leaders to account for the quality of education and the wellbeing of pupils and staff.

Importantly, governors do not become involved in the day-to-day operational running of the school. Instead, they focus on the bigger picture, helping to ensure the school continues to improve and every child has the opportunity to flourish.

What will you gain?

Being a school governor is a rewarding opportunity to:

  • Make a lasting difference to children's lives.
  • Develop leadership, strategic planning and decision-making skills.
  • Gain valuable governance and committee experience.
  • Work alongside dedicated professionals and volunteers.
  • Build new relationships and contribute to your local community.
  • Enhance your CV through meaningful voluntary leadership experience.

Support every step of the way

No previous experience of school governance is required. Full induction, training and ongoing support are provided.

As part of the Medway Anglican Schools Trust (MAST), our governors benefit from a comprehensive programme of support, including:

  • A structured induction programme for new governors.
  • High-quality training delivered throughout the year.
  • Access to specialist advice from our central team.
  • Opportunities to network and share good practice with governors from across our family of schools.
  • Regular governance briefings and updates to help you fulfil the role with confidence.

Whether you have experience in education, finance, law, business, human resources, estates, safeguarding, marketing, technology, healthcare or simply a passion for helping children succeed, your skills could make a real difference.

If you are passionate about helping children belong, be safe and flourish, we would be delighted to hear from you. Join us in shaping the future of our school and making a lasting difference for every child.
