The Role

The Assistant Curriculum Leader supports the Curriculum Leader (CL) in leading and managing the mathematics department to ensure high-quality teaching, effective resource use, and improved student outcomes. This role includes responsibilities beyond those outlined in the National Standards for qualified teachers.

General Duties

  • Support the CL Mathematics in developing and implementing departmental policies and the curriculum

  • Assist with improvement plans, departmental reports, and deputise for the CL when needed

  • Contribute to delivering consistently high-quality lessons across key stages and develop teaching and learning practices

  • Monitor schemes of work, ensuring clarity of lesson outcomes, and evaluate their implementation and impact

  • Support staff with tracking student progress and maintaining records in line with school policies

  • Help monitor and enhance teaching quality and student achievement, offering constructive feedback and setting targets

  • Undertake performance development of staff, supporting training needs, and leading professional development through coaching and example

  • Address staff concerns or absences in collaboration with the leadership team and CL Mathematics

  • Lead the development and assessment of the KS3-5 curriculum, including schemes of work, assessments, and practical exams

  • Ensure effective management of departmental resources
