Turing House School is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Teacher of English to join our vibrant secondary school community on a maternity cover contract. This is an exciting opportunity to support students across KS3–KS4 (and possibly KS5), helping them to achieve their best in English.

Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare and deliver lessons that are creative, engaging and appropriately differentiated
- Assess, monitor, record and report on the learning needs, progress and achievements of all students
- Create a positive, supportive and stimulating classroom environment
- Contribute to departmental and whole‑school development as required
- Take part in meetings, parents’ evenings and staff development sessions
- Support the school’s commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
- Carry out any other duties reasonably requested by the Headteacher or line manager
Safeguarding
- This role involves regular contact with children and engagement in regulated activity relevant to children
- All staff are expected to adhere to the requirements set out in Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE)
- All appointments will be subject to the satisfactory completion of safeguarding checks
Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Degree in English or a related subject
- Evidence of recent professional development relevant to teaching English
Experience
- Experience teaching English at secondary level
- Experience delivering a broad and balanced curriculum
- Experience supporting students of varying abilities, including SEND and EAL
Skills and Knowledge
- Strong subject knowledge of English language and literature
- Knowledge of effective teaching and learning strategies
- Ability to use assessment data to inform teaching and learning
- Excellent classroom management skills
- Good IT skills, including the use of relevant educational software
- Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and procedures
