 We are looking to appoint a Librarian to ensure that the library is at the heart of the school, supporting students to develop a love of reading and reading for pleasure culture and provide a learning hub for students. The school librarian will work closely with the SLT Literacy lead. There is also the opportunity for professional development such as the NPQLL (Leading Literacy).

 This is a student facing role and the successful candidate will be passionate about literacy, have good administrative skills have excellent interpersonal skills. Experience of working in a school setting is preferred but not essential. This is a part-time role of around 4 hours per day which are flexible within the hours of 9-3 for the right candidate.

Job Description

Salary: Actual for 20 hours £11,602 (FTE £25,263).

Weeks/Hours: 20 hours per week, term time only.

Daily hours of work: This is a part-time role of around 4 hours per day which are flexible within the hours of 9:00am-3:00pm for the right candidate. 

Responsible To: SLT Literacy Lead

 Principal Duties:

 To manage the School Library ensuring that the library is at the heart of the school, supporting students to develop a love of reading and a reading for pleasure culture and provide a learning hub for students.

Job responsibilities:

 1. Managing the Library

  • Organize, catalogue, and shelve books and resources
  • Ensuring our library catalogue meets the needs of the students and supports the curriculum.
  • Curating reading lists and recommendations from KS3-5
  • Order new books, eBooks, and materials
  • Keep the library tidy and welcoming and oversee lower school students in the library at break and lunch
  • Manage check-outs and returns
  • Overseeing book donations from the local community

 2. Supporting Students

  • Help students find books and research information
  • Recommend books based on interests and reading level
  • Support with homework and projects.
  • Reading/ Literacy interventions

 3. Promoting Reading

  • Organize author visits and opportunities (writing competitions) throughout the year to promote reading
  • Support with ‘Must Read March’ and ‘World Book Day’
  • Leading and facilitating book clubs
  • Create displays and themed activities
  • Ensure fiction reading lists are up to date

 4. Sixth Form Support

  • Advise students on efficient methods of research to assist in their learning and coursework
  • Oversee and supervise Sixth Form study in the library ensuring safe and sensible behaviour in line with the school’s behaviour policy.
  • Support the Sixth Form team with administration tasks
