experience of working with young people in an educational environment would be
an advantage. Good administrative skills
are also required. Part time

JOB DESCRIPTION
TEACHING ASSISTANT
Reports to: SENCO
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· To assist the classroom teacher in the provision of learning and educational opportunities in one or some of the following ways:
-
Provide support in such a way as to
facilitate the pupil’s independent learning, by explanation, encouragement and
targeted questioning.

Clarifying and explaining instructions
-
Enabling pupils to use equipment and materials
-
Motivating the pupils
-
Assisting pupils in weaker areas, where they have
additional needs, for example reading and spelling, language, and social skills
-
Helping pupils to concentrate and complete work
-
Helping pupils with physical needs whilst at the
same time encouraging independence
-
Liaise with teachers/SENCO/ Pastoral Leads to devise
alternative work for pupils if considered necessary
-
Ensure that homework tasks are understood and
clearly recorded
-
Promote good pupil behaviour, dealing promptly with
conflicts and incidents in line with school policy and encourage pupils to take
responsibility for their own behaviour

To develop an understanding of the specific needs
of pupils with SEN
·
Regular monitoring of SEN pupils’ individual
targets and contribution to the annual review process, for pupils who hold an
Education and Health Care Plan.
·
Assist with the development and implementation of
EHC plans
·
To establish constructive relationships with staff
·
To observe a degree of confidentiality and
professionalism with staff and multi agencies, in relating information relevant
to the pupils being supported
·
Administer routine tests and invigilate exams as
required.
·
Under the direction of the classroom
teacher, deliver targeted 1:1 and small group interventions
·
Ability to relate sympathetically to students and
support them in their social development
·
Provide regular feedback to the appropriate
professionals and SENCO/ Pastoral Leads on pupils’ progress.
·
Liaise with other Learning Support Assistants to
share good practice
·
Commitment to continued professional
development.
·
Be prepared to attend at least one INSET Day per
year
·
Be prepared to support departments with preparation
of materials
·
Accompany
teaching staff and pupils on visits, trips and out of school activities, as
required.
·
Able to work as a member of a diverse team
·
Good level of literacy and numeracy
·
Good communication skills
OTHER DUTIES:
Other tasks will be negotiated and
agreed at the time of appointment and during performance management meetings. Such tasks may be seen as an important part
of the School’s continuing professional development programme.
