It couldn’t be a more exciting time to join us at Springwell Alternative Academy. Working in close partnership with local primary and secondary schools, we provide vital alternative education pathways and day-6 provision for children across Barnsley. As a proud part of the Wellspring Academy Trust (recently named Multi Academy Trust of the Year), we offer a supportive team environment, high quality personalised training, and the chance to work with utterly fabulous children in small groups.
At Springwell, we don't focus on the past; we focus on the future. We believe that with the right environment, the right relationships, and a genuinely caring team, every single student can change their trajectory and succeed. We live and breathe our core values every single day: Kindness, Courage, Curiosity, and Pride.
We are building our Talent Pool to connect with patient, resilient, and open minded people for upcoming permanent, part time, fixed term, and flexible relief roles. If you want a career where your personality, empathy, and listening skills matter far more than corporate talk, we want to hear from you.
Teaching Assistant – Grade 2 (Perfect Entry Level): If you are looking to take your first steps into alternative education, this is a brilliant starting point. Working under the guidance of a teacher, you will get the classroom ready, support children with reading, visual learning, or creative play, and help our pupils build a secure, positive relationship with school.
Teaching Assistant – Grade 4 (Classroom Lead & Support): Ready for a bit more responsibility? In this role, you will implement lesson plans, lead small or whole class groups, and manage pupil plans and interventions. You will be a steady anchor, working 1 to 1 to help our students re-engage with their academic and personal development.
Positive Engagement Coach / Instructor: Bring your creativity and resilience to the classroom, the sports field, and the great outdoors! You will take the lead in designing, coordinating, and delivering personalised intervention packages. You’ll lead small classes through sports, outdoor learning, and activities designed to spark their self-esteem and build emotional strength.
Inclusion Support Worker (ISW): This role is all about sensitive, active listening and wrapping a layer of support around our students. You will remain calm in stressful situations, create and implement behaviour management plans, adapt learning materials to fit individual needs, and maintain vital routines for pupils at school, in the community, and within the family home.
We would also love to hear from people interested in joining our catering, cleaning, and estates teams who want to help keep our academy running smoothly and looking great.
Unconditional Positive Regard: We believe people flourish when their environment is good enough. We accept and care for our students unconditionally, creating a culture of trust and empathy that applies to our staff team just as much as our kids.
Clear Career Pathways: We love to see our people grow. Many of our current school leaders, specialists, and teachers started out right here in support and coaching roles. When you join the Wellspring family, your professional development is fully backed with high quality, personalised training.
Workplace Well being: Work with supportive colleagues in a welcoming environment that actively prioritises your workload, health, and mental well being.
A Great Balance: We value work-life balance. You get to do profoundly meaningful, life changing work during the school day, backed by an incredibly close knit team, while leaving work completely at the door when you clock out.
When you register for our support staff talent pool, you aren't just joining a waiting list, you are positioning yourself at the front of the line for a rewarding career. When a suitable vacancy opens, our talent pool is our first port of call and our recruitment team will be in touch. We will keep you up to date with the latest news and activities within our school on a regular basis.
