About this Role

Assistant Headteacher (0.7 FTE) & Primary School Development Partner (0.3 FTE)
Wickham Market Primary School & East Anglian Schools’ Trust (EAST)
Full Time | Fixed Term – 1 Year | Start: September 2026

Wickham Market Primary School is a warm and welcoming primary school set in a rural location, surrounded by 7 acres of beautiful grounds. With 159 pupils on roll, including a Nursery class, the school is proud to offer a rich and varied curriculum supported by excellent facilities, including a woodland and science lab.

We are seeking an exceptional and ambitious leader to join our dedicated and supportive team in a unique, full-time role that combines school leadership with Trust-wide work.

This post is a one-year fixed term position and is offered as one full-time role combining two complementary responsibilities. The position cannot be divided into separate posts.

The role comprises:
  • 0.7 FTE Assistant Headteacher at Wickham Market Primary School (including approximately 2 days teaching and 1.5 days leadership time)
  • 0.3 FTE Primary School Development Partner across EAST primary schools

As Assistant Headteacher, you will play a key role within the Senior Leadership Team, supporting the Head of School to drive school improvement, strengthen teaching and learning, and ensure the best possible outcomes for all pupils.

Alongside this, in your role as Primary School Development Partner, you will work closely with the Director of Primary Education and Headteachers across the Trust to support the implementation of school improvement priorities. This will involve working directly in schools to embed curriculum plans, support teaching, coach staff and ensure agreed strategies are translated into effective classroom practice.

This is a practical, hands-on role that offers a unique opportunity to develop experience both within a single school and across a wider Trust, working collaboratively with colleagues to accelerate improvement and build capacity.

We are looking for a candidate who:

  • Has experience of leadership within a primary setting (ideally at SLT level)
  • Is passionate about improving teaching, curriculum and pupil outcomes
  • Can work effectively with colleagues at all levels, building strong professional relationships
  • Is confident in coaching, modelling and supporting others to improve practice
  • Is organised, adaptable and committed to making a difference across both school and Trust contexts
We can offer:
  • A warm, welcoming and supportive school community
  • Enthusiastic pupils who are eager to learn
  • A committed and collaborative staff team
  • Opportunities to work across a successful and growing multi-academy trust
  • Professional development and support to grow in both school and Trust roles

We are proud to be part of East Anglian Schools’ Trust (EAST), working closely with Farlingaye High School, Holbrook Academy, Kesgrave High School, Bungay High School, Castle East School, EAST SCITT and our partner primary schools: Kyson, Easton, Leiston, Aldeburgh and Saxmundham.

This is an excellent opportunity for an aspiring or current senior leader who is looking to broaden their experience and make a meaningful impact both within a school and across a Trust.

For an informal conversation, please contact the school office on 01728 746405 and ask for the Head of School, or email wkt.finance@eastmat.org or contact Helen Murray at hmurray@eastmat.org to discuss the Trust role.

Applications should be completed via the MyNewTerm portal and include a supporting statement of no more than two sides of A4 outlining your experience and how you would ensure impact in this role.

East Anglian Schools’ Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. DBS checks are required for all posts.

We are committed to building a diverse workforce and welcome applications from all suitably qualified candidates regardless of sex, race, religion, belief, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, pregnancy, maternity, age, disability, marriage or civil partnership.
