We are seeking a committed and enthusiastic One‑to‑One Teaching Assistant to join our friendly and supportive team at Kennington Church of England Academy. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference by providing dedicated, individual support to a pupil, helping them to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

As a One‑to‑One Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher, SENCo, and other professionals to support the learning, wellbeing, and development of an individual pupil, including those with additional needs. You will play a key role in helping the pupil access the curriculum, develop independence, and engage positively in school life.

This post is for 32.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8:30am - 3:30pm, term time only plus one week (39 weeks).

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated one‑to‑one support for a named pupil under the direction of the class teacher and SENCo
  • Support the pupil’s access to learning and participation in classroom activities
  • Implement personalised strategies and interventions to meet the pupil’s individual learning, behavioural, emotional, or medical needs
  • Assist with the planning and delivery of adapted learning activities
  • Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and social interaction
  • Support the pupil during transitions, break times, and school activities
  • Help maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment
  • Monitor and record progress, contributing to assessments and review meetings as required
  • Work closely with teachers, parents/carers, and external agencies to provide consistent support

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Passionate about supporting children with additional needs to succeed
  • Patient, understanding, and empathetic
  • Able to build strong, trusting relationships with pupils and staff
  • Confident in following individual support plans and behaviour strategies
  • Observant, proactive, and responsive to a pupil’s needs
  • A clear and effective communicator with good interpersonal skills

What We Offer

  • A welcoming and supportive staff team
  • Ongoing professional development and training opportunities
  • A positive, inclusive, and well‑resourced learning environment
  • The opportunity to make a genuine and lasting impact on a child’s education and wellbeing

We warmly encourage visits to the school. To arrange a tour or an informal conversation, please contact the school office.
