About this Role

Calthorpe Academy is looking to appoint a fulltime Teaching Assistant Level 3 for pupils aged 2 to 19 years to work in our Academy. Pupils have a range of primary needs ranging from severe learning difficulties (SLD), Autistic spectrum (ASD) to profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD)

Our support staff are heavily involved in:

· The development of a communication-based/sensory curriculum that is appropriate in content and structure for pupils with severe/complex learning difficulties

· Establishing curriculum differentiation to support access for pupils with severe/complex learning difficulties

· The development of early communication

· Building up evidence portfolios and teaching and learning resources

Personal Care, PECS, and Makaton are much valued skills, though training in these areas are on offer through our CPD programme.

This post is covered by Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) and therefore the ability to speak fluent and spoken English is an essential requirement for this role.


This level is applicable to experienced teaching assistants whose working role calls for competence across a varied range of responsibilities 

Purpose of job

  •  To support teaching staff in the development and education of pupils including the provision of specialist skills as appropriate.

 Duties and responsibilities         

  •  Support for pupils (either individually or in groups
  • Support the activities of individuals or groups
  • Establish and maintain relationships with individual pupils and groups
  • Assist in the formulation of  Individual Education Plans as appropriate
  • Support pupils during learning activities including supporting in the hydrotherapy pool.
  • Promote pupils’ social and emotional development
  •  Contribute to the health and well being of pupils
  • Provide support for bilingual/multilingual pupils (where appropriate to the focus of the role)
  • Support children with specific needs, for example, sensory and/or physical impairment, cognitive or learning difficulties, behavioural, emotional and social development needs, communication and interaction difficulties and individual personal requirements.
  • Support pupils to access the curriculum.

              Support for the teacher(s)

  • serve and report on pupil performance
  • Assist in the planning and evaluation of learning activities
  • Assist in preparing and maintaining the learning environment
  • Contribute to the management of pupils’ behaviour
  • Assist in the maintenance of pupils’ records
  • Support the maintenance of pupils’ safety and security
  • Supervise the whole class for a short time in an emergency or for a period of absence for up to 3 days.
  • Provide general administrative support, for example, administer coursework, produce worksheets etc.
  • Undertake joint home visits as appropriate and in line with LA policy.

                  Support for the school

  • Support the development and effectiveness of team work within the school environment
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with other professionals
  • Liaise with parents as appropriate
  • Review and develop own professional practice.
  • To support the induction process for new starters and to provide training support for level 2 colleagues
  • Any other duties deemed appropriate at the direction of the Head Teacher.

              Support for the curriculum

  • Support the use of information and communication technology in the classroom
    Requirement

    You will need to have an ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence through the medium of English.

 

Qualification required – Essential – NVQ level 3 or equivalent

 

Within the grade and job description of each level the exact focus of the role will be decided at school level and will take into account the needs of the school as well as the experience and development needs of the member of staff
