About this Role

Great governance is a key aspect of the strength of our school leadership. This is an open invitation aimed at gathering expressions of interest for individuals with relevant expertise who may wish to be considered for future Governor vacancies as they arise. Expressions of interest should be submitted via CV accompanied by a short covering letter outlining your interest in the role, preferred school within the Trust and the specific areas of expertise you believe would be beneficial to the role.

About the Role

Governors are volunteers who provide strategic oversight, ensure accountability, and help shape the vision and direction of each school. We welcome applications from individuals with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences, particularly in:

  • Quality of education and curriculum
  • Financial oversight
  • HR and staff wellbeing
  • Safeguarding and inclusion
  • Leadership or governance
  • Community engagement
  • Social and welfare enterprises which benefit young people

No prior experience in education is required — full training and support will be provided.

Key Responsibilities Include: 

  • Support and challenge for school leaders
  • Monitoring pupil outcomes and school performance
  • Overseeing resource management
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory duties and safeguarding
  • Contributing to strategic planning and school improvement

Time Commitment

Governors typically commit to:

  • 5/6 local academy committee meetings per year (usually evenings)
  • School visits and events to engage with pupils and staff
  • Training and development sessions to build governance skills

The average time commitment is around 4 hours per month.
