Castlewood School is seeking to appoint a passionate and
skilled PSHE Teacher to lead and deliver Personal, Social, Health and Economic
(PSHE) education across the school.
This is a permanent position and an exciting opportunity to shape
and drive a high-quality, responsive PSHE curriculum for pupils in Years
7–11 and support the curriculum in primary, within a specialist SEMH
setting.
About the Role:
This role combines classroom teaching with strategic leadership of
PSHE across the school.
You will:
Teach PSHE across Key Stages 3 and 4 (Years 7–11)
Lead the development and implementation of a coherent, progressive
PSHE curriculum
Deliver a reactive safeguarding curriculum, responding to emerging
issues within our school and local community
Ensure PSHE supports pupils to develop emotionally, socially, and
safely in line with our ethos
A key part of the role will be ensuring that PSHE is meaningful,
relevant, and responsive, supporting pupils with SEMH needs to understand
themselves and the world around them.
Wider Responsibilities
As PSHE Lead, you will:
Support and guide staff in delivering PSHE within tutor time and
across the wider curriculum
Work with colleagues to thread PSHE themes across subject areas
Provide advice, resources, and training to support consistent,
high-quality provision
Monitor and evaluate the impact of PSHE teaching, using pupil
voice
Contribute to safeguarding by ensuring the curriculum addresses
current risks, themes, and contextual issues
What We Are Looking For
We are seeking a practitioner who:
Is an inspirational teacher with the ability to engage and motivate
pupils with SEMH needs
Has strong subject knowledge in PSHE and safeguarding themes
Understands how to adapt teaching to support pupils
with additional needs and barriers to learning
Is confident addressing sensitive and emerging issues in a
safe, appropriate way
Can build strong relationships with
pupils, staff and families
Is committed to contributing to the wider ethos and development of
the school
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Experience teaching secondary-aged pupils (KS3–KS4)
Experience working with pupils with SEMH needs
Strong understanding of safeguarding and pastoral support
Experience leading a subject or whole-school initiative
Experience delivering PSHE or safeguarding curriculum
Experience working in a specialist or alternative provision setting
