About this Role

PolyMAT is a small but ambitious Multi-Academy Trust with a unique family feel. Our vision is Success for Everyone, and we are seeking a dedicated Scribe and Translator in Russian or Ukrainian to help deliver this vision across our schools.

 We currently comprise three schools: 

        Woolwich Polytechnic School for Boys – a long-established and successful boys’ secondary school 

        Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls – opened in 2019 and growing rapidly 

        Bannockburn Primary School – a large, successful primary school that joined the Trust in November 2023 

 We also have a thriving co-educational Sixth Form provision.

 Woolwich Polytechnic School for Boys is seeking reliable, professional and linguistically skilled individuals to join our Exams Team as Scribes and Translators. This important role ensures that students with English as an additional language (EAL) or with approved access arrangements can fully demonstrate their knowledge and abilities under examination conditions.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with strong language skills in Russian or Ukrainian who are looking to support students and contribute to a fair and inclusive examination process.

 

The Scribe and Translator will provide high‑quality scribing and translation support during examinations in line with Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) regulations. Full training will be provided.

 About the Role

  • The Scribe and Translator will provide high‑quality scribing and translation support during examinations in line with Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) regulations. Full training will beAccurately write or type exactly what the candidate dictates, following JCQ rules on spelling and punctuation.
  • Read back written responses when requested.
  • Maintain accuracy, neutrality, and professionalism at all times.
  • Ensure all scribing is conducted in full compliance with JCQ Access Arrangements and Reasonable Adjustments guidance.

Translation Duties (to English)

  • Provide accurate translation of exam instructions and authorised materials.
  • Translate permitted exam content (e.g., instructions, clarifications) when allowed by JCQ regulations.
  • Translate verbal candidate responses for the Exams Team when required.
  • Deliver translations that are impartial, literal, and non‑interpretative.

Exam Conduct and Compliance

  • Follow JCQ regulations, school exam policies, and safeguarding requirements at all times.
  • Arrive punctually and be fully prepared for each exam session.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all exam materials and student information.
  • Report any concerns or irregularities to the Exams Manager immediately.
  • Support the setup and clearing of exam rooms where necessary.

Additional Information

  • JCQ regulations training will be provided.
  • Flexibility is essential, particularly during peak exam periods (May–July and November–January).
  • The role involves working with vulnerable students, including those with EAL and access arrangements.

  • Fluency in Russian or Ukrainian with strong English skills.

  • Ability to follow strict regulatory and confidentiality requirements.
  • Calm, supportive approach when working with students.
