Become a Community Governor The Cooper School, Bicester, Part of the Acer Trust
We are seeking additional community governors to join the School Governing Body at The Cooper School (Bicester), part of the Acer Trust. This is a strategic volunteer role: governors help set direction, provide informed scrutiny, and ensure the school delivers for pupils and families. We are particularly keen to attract people who are thoughtful and community-minded, and who share Acer’s commitment to improving outcomes for every child and fostering a culture of trust, collaboration, and care.
The commitment is meaningful rather than symbolic. Expect six in-person meetings per year, preparation and reading, and some focused school visits, often through a link governor portfolio (for example, SEND, safeguarding, attendance, careers, or curriculum). Link governor work is planned and structured: you agree a focus aligned to the School Improvement Plan, speak with staff (and sometimes pupils), and report back to the governing body. In return, it provides valuable professional development: board-level experience in governance, risk, evidence, and organisational oversight. If you can bring sound judgement, discretion, and real follow-through, we would welcome a conversation about joining the team.
