About this Role

Are you motivated by helping young people shape their futures and make confident, aspirational and well‑informed choices about work, apprenticeships, or continued education? If so, this role within our Professional Services team could be just for you.

We are seeking to recruit a Manager for Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) to work alongside our pastoral leaders and colleagues and across all age groups (11-18). We have 400 learners in our thriving Sixth Form.

The successful candidate will support and deliver effective careers guidance, careers education and information for pupils and students, facilitating and enhancing the delivery of appropriate Gatsby benchmarks. They will design, select and provide curriculum resources, activities and services to meet pupils’ and students’ career needs, as a part of the School’s learning for life programme; and lead on a range of projects which assist and support pupils and students into employment or further and higher education, and act to raise aspiration.

Experience of working  with young people aged 11-19 is important, and recent knowledge and understanding of careers education is an advantage, though we would welcome applicants who are keen to learn and develop in this area.  The successful candidate will be able to motivate others, be proactive and organised, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues and external partners.

At University of Birmingham School, we are pioneering a comprehensive school and sixth form for a truly diverse and inclusive learning community that creates great citizens. We are proud to welcome 1170 11-19 year olds from all across Birmingham through our doors to be part of our state-of-the-art school, and give them the opportunity to develop great character and achieve academic success in a thriving community - without limits.

We will have high expectations of you to be an outstanding role model committed to the distinctive ethos of our School, where we strive for academic excellence, underpinned by character education.  In return we can offer you:

  • A commitment to your continued professional development within school, using additional training days to enhance and develop your knowledge and skills.
  • 3 days per year dedicated to your own research or professional learning
  • Involvement in our exciting timetabled enrichment programme.
  • Access to world class resources, research and people through our partnership with the University of Birmingham.

Visits to school are welcomed, please contact Katie Tennant at k.tennant@uobschool.org.uk to arrange this.

Please note that we will not consider applications via CV .

The University of Birmingham School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff to share this commitment.

The successful candidate will be subject to all necessary pre-employment checks including: enhanced DBS; Prohibition Check; qualifications; medical fitness; identity and right to work.

All applicants will be required to provide two suitable references.  If you are currently working in a school setting, please ensure that your references include your current Head Teacher.

An online search will also be carried out as part of due diligence on all short-listed candidates.
