About this Role

Make a real difference every day

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join our supportive SEND team and play a vital role in enabling students to thrive—academically, socially and emotionally.

This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with young people, including those with complex needs, supporting their learning, independence and inclusion within a high-achieving school community.

About the role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will:

  • Provide targeted support to students with SEND, both in the classroom and through small group or 1:1 interventions
  • Work alongside teachers to support learning, progress and engagement
  • Encourage independence, confidence and inclusion for all learners
  • Help develop and implement tailored provision and support plans
  • Build strong, positive relationships with students, acting as a role model and key adult

You may also have the opportunity to deliver interventions, support individual programmes, or act as a key worker for named students.

What we’re looking for

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with young people at either primary and/or secondary school
  • Is calm, organised and able to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Is patient, resilient and genuinely committed to supporting students’ wellbeing and progress
  • Holds (or is willing to develop) a good understanding of SEND and inclusive practice

A Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in English and maths is essential.

Experience of supporting students with autism or additional needs would be an advantage.

A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people is essential.

Why join us?

  • A welcoming, inclusive and high-performing school environment
  • A strong commitment to professional development and SEND training
  • The opportunity to make a genuine difference to students’ lives every day
  • A supportive team and leadership that values your contribution

Focused on delivering Excellence for All, The Hertfordshire & Essex High School is part of an outstanding organisation providing a vibrant and welcoming working environment in a popular school and a first-rate experience for staff looking to develop their careers in education as well as putting staff wellbeing at its heart.

HEMAT is dedicated to supporting and promoting equality, diversity and inclusion in the school community.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expects all members of staff to share this commitment.  We reserve the right to hold interviews when we receive a field of suitable candidates, therefore early application is encouraged.  Appointment to this post will be subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks including satisfactory Criminal Records Check through the Disclosure and Barring Service and online checks.
