About this Role

John Mason School is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and student-centered Careers Adviser to join our successful Personal Development and Careers team from September 2026.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting young people to make informed decisions about their future pathways. Working closely with students, parents, staff, employers, training providers and higher education institutions, you will help ensure that every student is well prepared for their next steps.

The successful candidate will provide impartial careers guidance to students across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 through individual guidance interviews, group sessions and careers events. They will contribute to the delivery of our careers programme and support the school's commitment to achieving the Gatsby Benchmarks and providing outstanding careers education.

 We are looking for someone who:

  • Holds a recognised Careers Guidance qualification (Level 6 essential).
  • Has experience of providing careers information, advice and guidance to young people.
  • Has excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Can build positive relationships with students, staff, parents and external partners.
  • Has a strong understanding of education, training, apprenticeship and employment pathways.
  • Is organised, proactive and able to manage their own workload effectively.
  • Is passionate about helping young people realise their aspirations and achieve their potential.

 The role will include:

·         Delivering one-to-one careers guidance interviews.

·         Supporting students with post-16 and post-18 progression planning.

·         Maintaining accurate records of guidance interventions.

·         Working with the Careers Leader to develop and evaluate the school’s careers programme.

·         Supporting careers events, employer encounters and higher education activities.

·         Liaising with external agencies, employers, colleges, universities and apprenticeship providers.

·         Contributing to the school’s achievement of the Gatsby Benchmarks and statutory careers guidance requirements
