About this Role

Job Title: Reading Tutor

Salary: Grade 3

Hours of work: 37 hours per week (part time to be considered)

 Responsible to: SENCO

 Post Objective:

 Support students to develop their reading skills and confidence through high-quality 1:1 and small group tutoring.

 Improve reading, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary and phonics where appropriate, helping students make measurable progress and develop a positive attitude toward reading.

 Be a calm and supportive individual who can work flexibly and adapt to different learning styles.

 

Duties, Responsibilities and Key Tasks:

 Deliver engaging and structured 1:1 and small group reading sessions to students.

·         Assess learners reading abilities and identify individual needs.

·         Work flexibly across academy provisions and departments to support students’ literacy, reading development and access to learning. 

·         Support teachers and students within classroom settings where required to reinforce learning and reading development. 

·         Plan and adapt sessions to meet differing abilities and learning styles.

·         Adapt strategies to support students with a range of additional needs, including reluctant or disengaged readers. 

·         Use a range of strategies to support phonics and decoding where required.

·         Encourage enjoyment, confidence, and motivation in reading.

·         Work flexibly between different departments, working closely with classroom teachers, SENCOs, and literacy coordinators.

·         Track learner progress against clear goals and share progress with SENCO and Pastoral staff.

·         Provide regular feedback to learners, parents, carers, or teachers (as appropriate).

·         Maintain accurate session records and progress notes.

·         Be calm, supportive and adaptable.

·         Be well organised and reliable.

·        Perform any task or duty under the reasonable direction of the Inclusion team.



The responsibilities of the post may be reviewed and modified in light of the needs of the academy. Any changes of a permanent nature will be incorporated into the job description and will therefore be the subject of negotiation with the post holder.

 

Note: It is expected that all post holders at Magnus Academy take part in training opportunities provided as part of their continued professional development and that any gained time to be taken in lieu.
