Hamstead Hall Academy is seeking an exceptional Assistant Headteacher to lead SEND provision across the academy. As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will shape strategy, drive high standards, and ensure that every student, regardless of need, has the opportunity to succeed.

This role offers the chance to lead a well-established area while continuing to develop provision, strengthen outcomes, and embed inclusive practice across all phases.

The role

As Assistant Headteacher, you will work closely with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team to lead and develop SEND provision across the academy, ensuring high-quality teaching, strong outcomes, and inclusive practice at every level.

Strategic leadership

- Contribute to the overall leadership and strategic direction of the academy 

- Play a key role in driving school improvement priorities 

- Promote a culture of high expectations for attainment, behaviour, and inclusion

SEND leadership and inclusion

- Lead the development and implementation of a clear, ambitious SEND vision across the academy 

- Ensure all staff understand and deliver high-quality adaptive teaching 

- Oversee EHCP processes, annual reviews, and external agency engagement 

- Lead and develop the Resource Base provision in partnership with the Head of Resource Base 

- Ensure effective pathways are in place to support student progression beyond each key stage 

Teaching, learning and staff development

- Drive high-quality teaching and learning for SEND students across all subject areas 

- Deliver and lead Continuous Professional Learning (CPL) to develop staff expertise 

- Support middle leaders to embed inclusive practice within their curriculum areas 

- Foster a culture of collaboration, coaching, and continuous improvement 

Curriculum and provision

- Ensure a broad, balanced, and inclusive curriculum that meets the needs of all SEND learners 

- Work with curriculum leaders to embed effective adaptation and support strategies 

- Oversee intervention programmes and evaluate their impact on student outcomes 

- Ensure high-quality remote learning provision for SEND students where required 

Behaviour, safeguarding and student welfare

- Promote a positive, inclusive behaviour culture across the academy 

- Contribute to safeguarding leadership, ensuring effective systems and student protection 

- Oversee provision and outcomes for vulnerable groups, including disadvantaged students and those with additional needs 

- Support attendance, engagement, and student wellbeing through targeted strategies 

Line management and team leadership

- Line manage the Head of Resource Base and SEND team 

- Lead, develop, and hold staff accountable for high standards of provision 

- Support recruitment, appraisal, and professional development within the SEND team 

- Ensure effective deployment of staff and resources to maximise impact 

Quality assurance and impact

- Monitor, evaluate, and improve SEND provision across the academy 

- Use data effectively to track progress, identify gaps, and drive improvement 

- Contribute to whole-school quality assurance, including lesson observations and reviews 

- Report to SLT, governors, and Trust on SEND performance and development priorities 

Communication and partnerships

- Build strong relationships with parents, carers, and external agencies 

- Work collaboratively with partner schools, organisations, and stakeholders 

- Contribute to academy events, transition processes, and wider community engagement
