Hamstead Hall Academy is seeking an enthusiastic and committed Year Leader to join our pastoral team. This is a key leadership role focused on raising standards of behaviour, attendance and achievement, while supporting the personal development and wellbeing of students.

You will play a central role in creating a positive, inclusive and aspirational culture where every student is supported to succeed both academically and personally.

The Role

As Year Leader, you will lead and oversee the pastoral provision for a designated year group, ensuring consistently high expectations for behaviour, attendance and personal development.

You will work closely with students, families, staff and external agencies to remove barriers to learning and ensure every young person has the opportunity to thrive.

You will also contribute to the development of strong pastoral systems across the academy and support a culture of ambition, care and achievement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Behaviour, Attendance & Culture
  • Implement and monitor the academy behaviour policy within your year group
  • Promote high expectations for behaviour, attendance and punctuality
  • Support students to make positive choices and understand consequences
  • Lead on behaviour interventions and manage incidents in line with academy procedures
  • Contribute to a positive culture for learning across the academy

Student Support & Pastoral Care 

  • Act as the key pastoral lead for a cohort of students
  • Support students in overcoming barriers to learning
  • Adopt a “vulnerable first” approach to student wellbeing
  • Lead assemblies and promote year group identity and values
  • Support transitions for new students joining the academy

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead and support a team of form tutors
  • Ensure consistent delivery of tutor programmes
  • Contribute to pastoral meetings and wider school improvement work
  • Work collaboratively with senior leaders and pastoral colleagues

Monitoring, Data & Communication 

  • Analyse attendance, behaviour and progress data to inform interventions
  • Track and evaluate the impact of support strategies
  • Maintain accurate student records using systems such as BromCom and CPOMS
  • Communicate regularly with parents/carers via meetings, calls and updates 
  • Liaise with safeguarding, SEND and attendance teams as appropriate

Wider Responsibilities

  • Support rewards and sanctions systems, including rewards events and trips
  • Supervise detentions as part of the wider pastoral team
  • Provide cover support when required
  • Contribute to safeguarding, welfare and whole-school pastoral systems
  • Work closely with external agencies where appropriate

About You

  • Experienced in working with children or young people in a pastoral or educational setting
  • Confident in behaviour management and supporting positive choices
  • Able to build strong relationships with students, families and colleagues
  • A strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Highly organised, proactive and calm under pressure
  • Committed to safeguarding, inclusion and equality of opportunity
  • Able to lead and motivate others effectively
