Join The St Marylebone CE Bridge School, a dynamic special school for students aged 11–16 with speech, language, and communication needs. Are you someone who enjoys working closely with young people, building strong relationships, and supporting pupils to engage with learning in a calm, thoughtful way? Are you proactive, reflective, and comfortable using your initiative in a busy secondary school environment?
We are seeking a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join our team at The St Marylebone CE Bridge School.
LSA roles at The St Marylebone CE Bridge School offer a unique opportunity for aspiring teachers or those considering a future career in education/allied health professions (eg. Educational Psychology, Speech and Language) to gain invaluable practical school-based experience, training and development in a Special Free School. Our vibrant community of pupils and dedicated staff members create an environment that is truly exceptional.
About the Role
As a Learning Support Assistant at SMBS, you will support pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), primarily for Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), including Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) and other language-related needs. Many pupils are autistic, and many also have social, emotional and mental health differences.
Classes typically range from 6–14 pupils, and the role may involve 1:1 support within lessons and/or whole-class support, depending on pupil need, working flexibly across the school day. Pupils use spoken language to communicate and benefit from skilled, thoughtful support to access learning, manage regulation, and build independence within a secondary school environment.
Some pupils require a high level of emotional and relational support at times, and may experience periods of distress or dysregulation that can impact behaviour and engagement. LSAs may work 1:1 with pupils during these times, using calm, consistent, and neuro-affirming approaches to support regulation, safety, and a return to learning. This role would particularly suit someone with experience supporting autistic pupils and an interest in working in a neuro-affirming, trauma-informed way.
LSAs at SMBS are active members of the classroom team. The role will suit someone who is confident using their judgement, able to adapt in the moment, and motivated to support pupils’ independence rather than providing constant adult direction.
You will work closely with teachers and the wider Interdisciplinary Team (including Speech and Language Therapy, Wellbeing, Behaviour, and Occupational Therapy), contributing to a consistent, trauma-informed and neuro-affirming approach across the school.
Small class sizes and a calm, supportive learning environment
A collaborative, reflective staff team
Opportunities to develop skills through training, CPD, and working alongside specialist staff
A values-driven school community where relationships matter
About the School
The St Marylebone CE Bridge School, a co-educational Special Free School for 11-16 year olds, aims to create an environment in which our students can achieve their maximum potential, gain independence and social awareness so that they can enjoy and participate in the world of work and adult society along with their mainstream peers. We are committed to nurturing independence and social awareness, empowering our students to not only excel academically but also to actively engage in the world around them.

Serving the local community, it fulfils the need for secondary places for students with communication barriers.
As a school with a Christian ethos we nurture respect for religious, moral and spiritual values. We seek to nurture Compassion, Kindness, Patience, Forgiveness, Wisdom, Peace and Gratitude in our school community. We acknowledge our special responsibility in preparing our students for life in modern Britain.
