The Computing Department now seeks an excellent
classroom practitioner with a passion for computing education to join our team.
Teacher of Computer Science
The successful candidate will have sufficient knowledge or experience to teach at both key stages 3 to 4, and a willingness to teach at KS5. An interest in curriculum development and in keeping abreast of developments in computing education is essential.
Computing is a thriving subject at Cambourne Village College. We believe that a computing education should be engaging and relevant for all students and the department works enthusiastically to ensure our curriculum reflects this and is up to date with current technological advances and educational thinking. As a result, Computing is a popular subject at KS3. We offer two popular courses at KS4: GCSE Computer Science and Cambridge National in Information technology, offering a real choice for pupils wishing to study computing. GCSE results are very strong and the Information Technology course has proved an extremely popular option in its first year of running.
KS3 students receive weekly lessons and follow a structured and progressive curriculum designed to develop students’ programming, computing, and digital media knowledge. Programming is learnt and developed using different languages, selected according to application suitability and developing fluency in concepts. Through the use of Raspberry Pis and micro controllers, including the micro:bit, students gain hands-on experience of practical uses of computing, computer systems, and different operating systems. Through web design and digital image editing, students expand their computing experience into digital media creativity.
At KS4, students follow the AQA Computer Science GCSE course, building on the KS3 curriculum and using Python for the programming aspects of the course. Information Technology is a Cambridge National with a focus on database system design and app development with augmented reality, building upon the creative topics covered in previous years. Cambourne Sixth Form opened in September 2024, introducing AQA A Level Computer Science as part of its curriculum. This expansion represents an exciting development in our computing provision, extending our educational offerings to KS5 level. The successful candidate will ideally have experience in teaching at KS5 or demonstrate strong aspirations to teach A Level Computer Science.
We welcome applications from
ECTs or more experienced staff. If successful, ECT’s will have the opportunity
to join Cambourne after completing their QTS, prior to September 2025.
