About this Role

Teacher of Science (Biology or Chemistry)

We are seeking to appoint a Teacher of Science specialising in either Biology or Chemistry, to join our thriving science department.

The successful candidate will join a team of 14 science teachers, and 3 science technicians. You will be an inspiring teacher with excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, who will be strongly supported to grow your practice.

It is an exciting time to join the Science Department at Cambourne Village College. Already well established, the department is expanding due to the continuing growth of the school. You will be part of supportive team where standards of teaching and learning are very high. Results are consistently strong, with excellent progress 8 scores. Our 6th form opened in September 2024 and we are now teaching A-level Chemistry.  At GCSE, students have the option of following either the AQA Trilogy Combined Science or AQA Separate Science routes, with some students taking Entry Level Science. Students are offered the opportunity to take BTEC Child Development at KS4 and have numerous extra-curricular opportunities including a STEM Club, an Eco Club and a science-based Activities Week.

Cambourne Village College is a 1:1 iPad school, with all students having a personal device. Our students are polite, courteous and eager to participate in the highly engaging science curriculum offered to them.

The college works closely with the Faculty of Education at the University of Cambridge, as well as local SCITT providers, to provide trainee teachers with an exciting and supportive introduction to their careers. This provides opportunities for mentoring trainee teachers, as well as cross fertilisation of ideas from some of the country’s leading training centres. We also benefit from having science-specialist TA’s working in the department.

It is an exciting time to join our teaching staff at Cambourne Village College. Already a well-established and successful school, the addition of our Sixth Form marks the final phase of our expansion. The school benefits from a wealth of exciting facilities and a strong culture of mutual support; staff morale is high and our students are courteous and eager to participate in the highly engaging curriculum offered to them. We are ambitious for our Sixth Form to reflect the successes of our main school, where results are consistently strong, with excellent Progress 8 scores.

Cambourne Village College is an Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ rated, over-subscribed secondary school, eight miles from Cambridge. We opened as an academy of the Cam Academy Trust in September 2013. Our ethos is aspirational and inclusive, our staff is highly motivated, our pupils courteous and hard-working, and we have excellent facilities. A 350 place sixth form opened in September 2024, with room for175 students in each of Years 12 and 13. Joining Cambourne Village College represents a unique opportunity to work in a newly-established school within a wider, high-quality Academy Trust that gives excellent possibilities for professional and career development.
