Responsible To: Head of Key Stage 4
At Hertswood, we are dedicated to creating a school
culture where pupils experience a positive, enriching school life that prepares
them for their next phase of education and beyond. You will be part of a
collaborative, supportive team that celebrates diversity and values your unique
contribution to our community.
Years 10 and 11 are pivotal milestones in a young
person’s life. The pressure of GCSEs, the transition into young adulthood, and
the navigating of future paths require a unique blend of academic focus and
unwavering pastoral care.
At Hertswood Academy, we are looking for a
dynamic, empathetic, and driven Key Stage 4 Academic Leader to join our
team. In this essential non-teaching support role, you will be the driving
force behind improving students' attitudes to learning, removing barriers to
success, and fostering an environment where every student can thrive under exam
pressure.
As our Academic Leader, you will collaborate closely
with Pastoral Support Leaders, Heads of Learning and Key Stage, Classroom
Teachers, and our SENDCO. You will be a champion for vulnerable, disadvantaged,
and at-risk young people, providing dedicated support for students with Social,
Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs as well as the wider student
community.
Your core responsibilities will include:
●
Data-Driven Intervention: Analysing academic
tracking data to spot underachievement early and building targeted 1:1 or
small-group intervention plans.
●
Exam Preparation & Access: Organising
revision schedules, study skills workshops, and stress-management sessions,
while collaborating with the SENDCO on exam access arrangements.
●
Pastoral Care & Mentoring: Serving as a
primary point of contact for students facing emotional or social difficulties,
delivering mentoring sessions focused on resilience, motivation, and mental
health.
●
Behaviour & Attendance Management:
Proactively tracking attendance, executing positive behaviour rewards, managing
restorative conversations, and supporting students reintegrating after periods
of absence.
●
Community Collaboration: Building strong bonds
with parents/carers and liaising with external agencies to ensure holistic
care.
Safeguarding & Equal Opportunities: Hertswood
Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and
young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. An enhanced DBS
check is required for this post. We are an equal opportunity employer,
celebrating diversity and committing to an inclusive environment for all
employees.
If you are a resilient, passionate professional ready
to guide our Key Stage 4 students toward a bright future, we want to hear from
you.
