Hertswood Academy is delighted to offer an exciting internal professional development opportunity for a passionate educator to join our Extended Leadership Team (ELT) on a fixed-term secondment.

Main Purpose of the Role

This secondment is specifically designed to bridge the gap between middle and senior leadership. Working closely alongside the Headteacher and the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), you will gain first hand experience in shaping the school’s future while maintaining a timetabled teaching commitment that models the highest standard of the Teachers' Standards.

Your exact leadership portfolio will be to be confirmed (TBC) upon appointment, allowing us to match your specific strengths and career goals with our school priorities. Potential areas of responsibility could include but are not limited to:

  • Staff Wellbeing & Staff Development / CPD

  • Student Attendance & Engagement

  • Cultural Capital and the House system

  • Literacy and Oracy

  • SEND & Student Inclusion

  • Digital Innovation

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Strategic Planning & Vision: Support the senior leadership team in driving the school's vision and strategic priorities, contributing directly to aspects of school improvement planning.

  • School Culture & Behaviour: Help maintain high educational standards and foster excellent student behaviour. Contribute actively to creating a positive, inclusive environment, and support efforts to improve student attendance.

  • Curriculum & Assessment: Support the high-quality implementation of the school’s curriculum, assist with student assessment, and champion the inclusion of all student groups.

  • Organisational Management: Assist with the day-to-day running of the school, supporting the smooth operation of specific school functions and ensuring the effective use of resources for assigned projects.

  • Staff Management & Partnership: Lead and participate in professional development activities, support school policies and procedures, and collaborate with external professionals and organisations as required.

  • Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.

  • A proactive, solution-focused mindset with the desire to develop school-wide policies and procedures.

  • The resilience and adaptability required to balance a teaching timetable with leadership responsibilities.
